Today it was announced that Matty Gregg is the recipient of the 2017 For Those Who Would Obstacle Course Racing Humanitarian of the Year award. This award, presented by OCR-based charity For Those Who WouldOCR World Championships, and Mud Run Guide, honors one individual from the obstacle course racing community each year who’s charitable efforts have a lasting impact on their community. Mr. Gregg was selected after a process that aggregates votes from the community and internal committee.

Mr. Gregg has become known for his fundraising initiatives of which the Wounded Warrior Project, St. Baldrick’s Children’s Hospital, and Team Rubicon have been benefactors. Most notably, Mr. Gregg assisted in organizing fundraising efforts for St. Baldrick’s, which achieved over $125,000 in donations, their single largest donation to date.

Speaking with MudRunGuide.com Mr. Gregg commented:

“I am humbled and honored to represent this year’s humanitarians at OCR World Championships. Thanks to Jeff Cain, For Those Who Would, the entire committee and OCR Community for this honor. Thanks to all who celebrate the kindness and camaraderie that has always been a big part of our sport.”

Jeff Cain, President of For Those Who Would, expressed his congratulations to Mr. Gregg on becoming the recipient this year of the award.

“There was an extremely strong field of candidates nominated for this year’s award and each of the finalists do amazing things within their communities. I am pleased that this year’s winner, Matty Gregg, is getting recognition for his heart and compassion for others,” stated Mr. Cain. “Even though the amount of money he has helped raise for charitable causes is tremendous, it is his dedication to looking out for others in need that makes him a true humanitarian. On behalf of For Those Who Would, we are happy to honor him with the OCR Humanitarian of the Year award.”

Gregg and the rest of the finalists will be honored at a special athlete welcome dinner on October 13 at the 2017 Obstacle Course Racing World Championships on October 13. Held at the Toronto Ski Club in Blue Mountain, Canada, tickets are available to all members of the public here.
