World OCR Rankings – March 2023

With March arrived the OCR season, and with races across North America and Europe we’ve seen some big changes across the board.

Familiar names top both the male & female leaderboards, after Kris Rugloski (USA, 1) and Ryan Kempson (USA, 1) had impressive wins at the first of the Savage Pro series in Georgia. This starts their season off also topping the Savage leaderboard, let’s see if they can hold onto their titles as the season progresses…

In hot pursuit both on the course and in our rankings are the second place male & female from the same event, Alex Walker (USA, 2) dropping one place from first place in February, and Shawn Roberts, (USA, 2) a new entry.

Other new entries on the leaderboards are American Jamie Horianpoulos (USA, 4) and Brit Kate Stillwell (UK, 5). Stillwell is an exceptional athlete who long deserves recognition, but with her successful participation in other sports rarely competes in OCR however, due to her successful performance in the UK time trials, she placed 5th in the leaderboard this month.

Another new entry international athlete, breaking up the wave of US flags dominating the board, is Nicaraguan Alvaro Vasquez (NIC, 9) he earnt his position this month with his performance at Savage Florida.

Although not placing in the top ten by our committee, special mentions go out to Danes Leon Kofoed and Jonas Drescher for the win at Gov Games. With Kofoed traveling to the US this month we expect to see some podiums heading his way.

Francesca started running OCR in 2013, and after devouring all the information she could find on the sport, she began writing about it herself. With OCR quickly gaining traction in the UK where she lives, she launched her own site, Mud Is My Makeup, in 2014.

Since then she has gone on to produce content for publications including OCR Europe, Mud Run Guide, Mudstacle, Obstacle Race Magazine, and Obstacle Mud Runner Magazine, as well as OCRWC.

Francesca loves exploring every aspect of the sport as much as she loves to explore the courses themselves. Very much an average athlete, her goal has always been to encourage the everyday person to get muddy and active and discover how much joy suffering out on a course can bring.

Her first experience of OCRWC was the epic Blue Mountain in 2016, although she’d been following the event from the early days. The whole atmosphere, set up, and experience had her hooked and she knew that this was an organization that she not only wanted to support, but be involved with, and to help bring the spirit of OCRWC to a wider audience.
